About The BFC
The Breakthrough Fusion Competition is all about the heart of Tribal Fusion Bellydance: Pure Innovation. Whether it’s costuming, movement, music, or attitude, the bellydance community has seen a rapid evolution of styles and trends the past few years. At the forefront of these trends, there’s always a handful of innovators who put themselves out there with their unique take on bellydance, blending their own interests, styles, and training. The pioneering trendsetters are already celebrities within the bellydance world, but the BFC is about finding the next round of innovators in the community and sharing their genius with the world.
We’re looking for the newest, freshest, and brightest new bellydance stars… Are you that next big thing?
But why not just do yet-another showcase show? Because competition brings out the best in people. Athletes train harder and perform at their peak when they know their skills will be put to the test against other athletes who’ve been preparing for the same title. We want to see our community at its absolute best and ready to be recognized as the best.
Critiques will be shared “American-Idol” style in order to keep the judging process an open book. The performers and the audience will hear the judges’ actual feedback. The BFC judges are some of the top artists, promoters, and presenters in the bellydance world. They know quality and they know innovation. By sharing their comments on the spot, competitors and the crowd will learn what the judges are looking for in the next breakthrough performer.
The prizes for The BFC are “experiential” more than material. We know flashy cash prizes are fun but we feel continued education and opportunity are even more valuable for the up and coming talent. The prize winners of The BFC will have opportunities to receive 1-on-1 mentorship from members of the judging staff, and teach workshops along side BFC judges following their win. It is our aim to help the winners of the BFC continue to deepen and develop their material.
The ultimate goal of The BFC is to raise the bar for performers, competitors, and innovators in the fusion bellydance community.
About Temple SF
Temple Nightclub is conveniently located just two blocks from Moscone Center, close to many of San Francisco's finest hotels. Filled with original unique antiquities from Southeast Asia, Temple is a true architectural gem.
The Shrine Room is Temple’s showcase room and largest room in the venue, featuring a state of the art Martin Audio sound system. Lustrous white marble floors and white and silver mid-tables and chairs are contrasted with ancient sculpture. Low Italian sofas and banquettes upholstered in white leather line the perimeter and invite a relaxed atmosphere, where guests can sit back, relax and take in the soothing ambience of their surroundings.
In addition to being beautiful, Temple is leading San Francisco’s Green Nightclub movement. The 40,000-square-foot venue uses corn-based cups and straws and starch-based cutlery that can be composted. Combined with the recycling, the club diverts 71 percent of its waste from landfills. It's installed energy-efficient, color-changing LED lights and has submitted to an energy audit that increased energy efficiency. And it's using PG&E's ClimateSmart program to offset carbon emissions.
The club uses recycled blue jeans as the sound insulation for recording studios on its second floor. Vertical gardens hang on the exterior walls on Howard Street, all part of an effort to make club-goers more conscious of the other sustainable efforts inside.
